Paris – 20th Jan 2013

Belated new year wishes, I hope that 2013 brings love and light to you all.

As the wider scope of weather looks set to stay cold and snowy around Europe at present, I’ve turned my thoughts to snowy days spent in Paris….ah there is just something about Paris in the snow that makes it just as wonderful as it is in Summer!

A walk along the Seine, anyone? 🙂

Olympics – London 2012 – France!

Whilst #TeamGB are currently riding high in the Olympic Medal Count, France are also doing well currently sitting in 5th place. With 4 Gold Medals already won in Swimming, 2 in Judo and 2 in Canoe Slalom; the French are not that far behind Korea and GB.

There’s no doubt that if it had been decided in 2005 that the Olympics 2012 were to be held in Paris it would of been a superb event in the same vein as London.

It’s great to see some French supporters in the crowds at London 2012, and of course the French flag being waved high when the National Anthem, ‘La Marseillaise’, is played. 🙂

“Up-tempo and ambitious, Echo (You And I) is a song about the very essence of life and love between two people. As Anggun puts it in her song, despite our frenetic modern lifestyles and our consumist obsessions, what really counts and gives our life meaning is “You and I”.”  Taken from Eurovision.tv

Le printemps est arrivé…!

Spring has sprung…!

Notre Dame in Spring

Ah, Notre Dame in Spring!

Bonjour! Welcome to 2012 and a new year of blogging for The French Connection UK.  Due to other commitments it has been a long absence with updates for the site, but rest assure that a lot of French material is to come your way…..

To kick off this fresh start I HAVE to share with you this beautiful cover of Swedish popstar, Robyn’s, ‘Call your girlfriend.’  The original version is sweet, but I love how this French version by Marie-Mai -‘Sans Cri Ni Haine’, adds even more beauty.  Everything sounds better in French, right? 😉

Lyrics are also included on this Youtube vid, so it’s even easier to follow along.

Remember to check out Marie-Mai in the ‘Music’ section also, as she does a superb duet with Canadian pop-rock band Simple Plan.

French Work

French Work Everywhere!

This week @ French Class, we studied some simple Prepositions.

Prepositions are words that link both parts of a sentence together. For example, under, in, inside etc.

Here are a few examples of ‘linking’ words in French…

sur – on

sous – under

devant – in front of

dans – in

dedans – inside

en face – opposite

So, here’s an example sentence…..

La souris est sous la table!

The Mouse is under the table!

Girls Aloud - Can't Speak FrenchWhilst browsing some French Music on Youtube the other day, I came across this quite good Girls Aloud French version of their single ‘I Can’t Speak French’, which was released in 2008.  It seems that this track was a b-side to the single.

As I’ve probably stated in my ‘Music’ section, I think that listening to French Music is a fantastic was of understanding and learning the language more. So check out the section and give it a go! 🙂
