Nouvelle Star is a French reality show based on our popular British Pop Idol format, produced by FremantleMedia and broadcast by channel M6 in France.
When it first aired in 2003, it was called ‘À la Recherche de la Nouvelle Star’, (‘Looking for the new Star’) but the name was shortened after Series 1.
Just like the format of Pop Idol / X Factor; – millions of contestants apply each year for the chance to win a recording contract, and the ticket to their dreams!
Back in the first series, winner Jonatan Cerrada went on to represent France in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004. He sang the ballad “A Chaque Pas” (‘With Each Step’), where he came 15th out of 24 finalist countries.
The song finishes with the lyrics ‘C’est l’Amour que dessineront nos mains’, in translation – ‘It is Love that our hands will shape.’
